Welcome to The Dead Frequencies
You found the signal.
Good. That means the equipment is working, the frequency is clear, and whatever interference was causing problems has either stopped or decided to let you through. Either way, you’re here now. Welcome to The Dead Frequencies.
My name is Emmett Cross, and I write horror about the places America forgot. Small towns where the mine closed and the pharmacy boarded up and the people who stayed learned to live on stubbornness and each other. I write about what happens when those places attract the attention of things that are very old, very patient, and very good at listening.
What This Is
The Broadcast is where I’ll share dispatches from the world of The Dead Frequencies. That includes:
- Dispatches — News about upcoming books, releases, and events
- Frequencies — Horror recommendations, reading lists, and the books that shaped my writing
- Static — Behind-the-scenes notes on the writing process, research, and the real places that inspired the fiction
The First Transmission
My debut novel, Dead Air, is the first book in The Dead Frequencies series. It’s the story of Harlow Hollow, West Virginia — a dying coal town where the radios start broadcasting a voice that knows everyone’s secrets. The voice calls itself Old Jack. It says it wants to help. It heals a dying girl. It exposes a violent man. It offers the return of everything this town has lost.
All it asks for in return is an audience.
If that sounds like your kind of horror, you can read more about the book or start with Chapter One.
Stay Tuned
The best way to stay connected is through the newsletter. Subscribers get The Collapse — a free prequel novella about the 1971 mine disaster that started everything — plus early access to new releases and behind-the-scenes content.
The signal is live. The frequency is open. And something beneath the mountain is always, always listening.
